Established on August 7 1981 Universitas Gunadarma began as the Computer Science Education Program. Three years later it transformed into the Gunadarma School of Informatics and Computer Management. This marked a significant step in its journey. This remarkable institution later expanded its offerings. It added the Gunadarma College of Economics in 1990. The university truly took flight in 1996. STMIK and STIE Gunadarma merged. Four new faculties joined the fold. These included industrial technology civil engineering and planning psychology and letters.

Universitas Gunadarma broke new ground. It became the first university with a campus in the new capital Nusantara.
