In February 2002, the university received definitive authorization from the Executive Branch. In 2008, the Institute of Philosophy and the Austral Park were established. The park is a scientific, technological, and business space.

In 2013, the Undergraduate Building was partially opened on the Pilar Campus. The campus design was inspired by the University of Navarra in Pamplona. In 2014, the Garay campus was closed. All undergraduate programs were moved to the Pilar Campus. The Universidad Austral then divided its operations. They were divided between the Pilar Campus, the Rosario campus, and the new Recoleta campus.

Since then, the Universidad Austral has continued to grow. It has added new programs such as Psychology. The School of Politics, Government, and International Relations was created in 2015. In 2019, the first psychologists graduated from the Universidad Austral.

The Universidad Austral offers a wide array of academic units. These include Biomedical Sciences, Business, Communication, and Law. There are also faculties for Engineering, Political Science, and Education.
