Wonder what it’s like to step into the heart of the movies? That’s what Universal Studios Singapore offers. It is a theme park located within Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island. Its construction began in 2007 and opened its doors on March 18, 2010. Universal Studios Singapore is the second Universal Studios theme park in Asia. Japan was the first. It is also the first in Southeast Asia.
Universal Studios Singapore is not just a park. It is a key part of Genting’s plan to build Singapore’s second integrated resort. The Singapore government gave the go-ahead in December 2006. The park map was released on October 20, 2009. Universal Studios Singapore quickly became popular. It attracted over 2 million visitors within nine months of opening.
Before its official opening, Universal Studios Singapore offered a sneak peek during Chinese New Year Celebrations in February 2010. People paid SGD$10 to enter. Despite the rides not operating, tickets sold out in two days. The park had a soft opening phase from March 18 to October 26, 2010. The grand opening gala occurred on May 27, 2011. Asian stars like Jet Li and Maggie Cheung attended. Paula Abdul from American Idol was there as well.
The park itself spans 20 hectares. That’s about 49 acres. It occupies the eastern part of Resorts World Sentosa. You will find 24 attractions here. Eighteen of them are unique to this park. The park has seven themed zones around a lagoon. Each zone is based on a blockbuster movie or TV show. You can explore unique attractions and meet characters. There are dining and shopping areas in each zone.
Thrill-seekers can ride the dueling roller coasters. They are based on Battlestar Galactica. Families can visit Shrek’s castle. Music lovers can see Monster Rock, a live show with the Universal Monsters. Universal Studios Singapore offers over 30 restaurants and food carts. There are also 20 retail stores.
The zones include Hollywood and New York. Sci-Fi City and Ancient Egypt are also popular. The Lost World features Jurassic Park and Waterworld. Don’t forget Far Far Away, inspired by Shrek. Madagascar has a crate adventure ride.
Minion Land opened on February 14, 2025. It features Gru’s Neighborhood and Super Silly Fun Land. You can shop at Minion Marketplace. New attractions are planned. Super Nintendo World is expected to open in 2025.
Universal Studios Singapore also hosts special events. Halloween Horror Nights began in October 2011. The Hollywood Dreams Parade occurs on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. It features floats and performers.
For a premium experience, try the VIP Tour. It offers discounts, dining, and VIP access to rides. The tour lasts about five hours. It covers eight or more attractions.
