October 21st, 1992. A dream materialized. The Universidad Internacional del Ecuador (UIDE) opened its doors. This university was the dream of Jorge Fernández Salazar. He was an educator, writer, journalist, diplomat, and humanist. He envisioned a place to train professionals who would contribute to Ecuadorian and global society. The UIDE began its journey, carrying the weight of high expectations. UIDE quickly established a reputation for academic excellence. The medical school at UIDE achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate on the Professional Qualification Exam. This accomplishment solidified its position as the top-ranked medical school in Ecuador. In 2016, UIDE achieved another milestone. It was the only private, self-financed, multi-campus university to be recategorized among Ecuador’s best. UIDE has grown to serve over 7,000 students across campuses in Quito, Guayaquil, and Loja. The main campus near Quito provides a unique learning environment. It spans 36 hectares and offers a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle. The campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities. These include a library, cafeteria, research labs, and a university residence. There are also spaces for sports, including a gymnasium, coliseum, and stadium. UIDE’s commitment to quality education extends beyond its borders. Through collaboration with Harvard University, UIDE established the Continental Association of Universities for Sustainable Development. It also partnered with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights to create the Free Legal Aid Office. UIDE’s history is one of ambition, achievement, and a dedication to shaping a better future for Ecuador and the world.
