It’s more than just a timepiece. It’s a silent observer of Harleshausen’s history. The Uhrtürmchen wasn’t always in its current spot. Originally built in the early 20th century, it stood in the middle of the intersection. It diligently displayed the time and even helpfully provided the train schedule for the Harleshausen station. In 1959, road construction threatened its existence. The tower was removed, seemingly lost to time. But the people of Harleshausen wouldn’t let their landmark fade away. Using old photographs, they lovingly recreated the Uhrtürmchen. In 1985, it was re-erected, not in its original location, but at the southwest corner of the intersection. This act of preservation speaks volumes about Harleshausen’s community spirit. They value their history and the Uhrtürmchen stands as a testament to this. In 2012, the Uhrtürmchen got a modern upgrade. It now boasts a small weather station. Not only does it tell the time, but also displays temperature, humidity, and air pressure. The Uhrtürmchen stands as a symbol of Harleshausen’s resilience and its embrace of both past and present. It reminds us that even small landmarks can hold significant meaning for a community.
