Perhaps you have heard about Uesen. This village is a district of Achim. Achim is a town in Lower Saxony Germany.

Uesen sits in the district of Verden. The Weser River flows very close by. Uesen lies between Baden’s eastern part and Achim’s western city. But there is more to discover about Uesen.

Let’s jump back in time. Imagine the late Bronze Age. An urn cemetery once stood where Uesen is now. These urns are now in museums. You can find them in Hanover and the Grundschule Uesen. Even trails from the Saxon period have been found here. The village we see today was founded in the Middle Ages.

Since the 17th century a windmill has graced the Geestrücken of the Weser in Uesen. The current Dutch Gallery windmill replaced an older one in the 18th century. It stands 29 meters high with two floors and a thatched roof. This windmill operated until 1965. Since 1969 it has been a museum. You can visit it to learn more about milling.

In the early 20th century asparagus farms thrived here. They were on the edge of the dunes. The asparagus from Am Ostfeld and Am Westerfeld was sold in Bremen and northern Germany. Since the mid-20th century the area has become residential.

In 1972 Uesen became part of Achim. This integration changed the local government.

The Weserbrücke is a vital bridge. It crosses the Weser River. It connects Achim and Thedinghausen as part of the L156 road. The current bridge was built in 1951. The previous bridge was destroyed in World War II.

Uesen also has a Grundschule and a public swimming pool. These serve the community.

Many large companies have facilities here. They are in the Achim-Uesen industrial estate. Dräxlmeier and H.F.Wiebe are examples of such companies.

Uesen has active associations and clubs. The TSV Uesen e.V. von 1924 is a sports club. The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Achim-Uesen is the local fire brigade. The Schützenverein Uesen 1955 e.V. is a rifle club. And finally, the Tennisgemeinschaft Uesen von 1976 e.V. is a tennis club.

So as you explore Uesen remember its long history. From ancient urns to modern industry Uesen has played its part.
