“How did Ubung Kaja get its name?” someone asks. Ubung Kaja is a village in Denpasar Utara. It is part of the Denpasar municipality, in Bali, Indonesia. Ubung Kaja is home to over 32000 people.

Ubung Kaja’s history is quite interesting. Originally, Desa Ubung had 10 Banjar Adat. Locals called this area Dauh Tukad Badung. By 1951, Desa Ubung grew to 17 Banjar Adat. Seven new Banjar Adat were added. These were Banjar Binoh Kaja and Banjar Binoh Kelod. Also, Banjar Dauh Kutuh and Banjar Pohgading. The list continues with Banjar Anyar-Anyar, Banjar Batu Mekaem, and Banjar Tulang Ampyang. These areas were formerly part of Desa Peguyangan.

Despite the added Banjar Adat, Desa Ubung was still divided. It had two Desa Adat. These were Desa Adat Ubung and Desa Adat Pohgading. On April 1, 1980, a decision was made. The Governor of Bali announced it. It was Decree Number 7/Pem/IIa/2-57/1980. This regarded the establishment of Preparation Villages. These were within the Denpasar Administrative City. Desa Ubung was then split. It became Desa Ubung Induk and Desa Persiapan Ubung Kaja. Desa Ubung Induk later became Kelurahan Ubung. Desa Persiapan Ubung Kaja then became Desa Ubung Kaja.

In 2016, Ubung Kaja had 32792 residents. There were 17043 men and 15749 women. The sex ratio was 108. Ubung Kaja is led by a village head called I Wayan Astika. His team helps run the village. Ni Wayan Saptiari is the Village Secretary. Kadek Adi Prayoga is the Head of Planning Affairs. Putra Bagus Bintara Yudha is the Head of General Affairs. Ni Ketut Muliyastini is in charge of Financial Affairs. I Ketut Oka Yudhi Prayoga handles Governmental Affairs. I Wayan Sukarta is the Head of Public Welfare Section. Ni Wayan Lenarti is the Head of Service Section.

I Made Bujana is the head of Dauh Kutuh. I Made Dharmayasa leads Pohgading. I Wayan Suma is the head of Anyar-Anyar. I Wayan Arnaya leads Permata Anyar. Agus Budi Saputra is the head of Batumekaem.
