Did a fish ever inspire a building’s design? Here at Turkuazoo Akvaryum, formerly known as Turkuazoo Istanbul Akvaryum, it’s easy to believe. The Forum Istanbul shopping mall, home to Turkuazoo Akvaryum, seems to ripple around it. Turkuazoo Akvaryum opened in October 2009. It quickly became the largest aquarium in Turkey. Its 8,000 square meters house over 10,000 sea creatures. One of its most captivating features is an 80-meter-long underwater observation tunnel. This tunnel gives you a 270-degree view of the marine life. You’re surrounded by sharks, rays, octopuses, and rare sea turtles as you walk through this glass passage. Imagine coming face-to-face with a sand tiger shark. Or watching a giant Pacific octopus gracefully navigate its tank. Turkuazoo Akvaryum offered more than just observation. You could even dive with sharks. Imagine the thrill of being inches away from these magnificent predators. There were also opportunities to take pictures. Perhaps capture a moment with a playful sea lion. Or a serene sea turtle gliding by. Turkuazoo Akvaryum also hosted special events in its unique spaces. Wedding ceremonies, business meetings, birthday parties, and educational programs for children happened within this underwater world. Sadly, this vibrant hub closed its doors on January 1, 2025. While its exhibits are no longer viewable, its memory ripples on. It serves as a reminder of the wonders hidden beneath the waves.
