“Ready for a breathtaking panorama? We are now standing at the Tündérhegyi úti kilátás a viewpoint on Tündér Hill. This spot offers stunning views.
The Tündérhegyi úti kilátás is more than just a pretty place. It is a part of Budapest’s newest hiking trail. The path marked with a red triangle is not too long. However it is quite steep.
This trail runs along the edge of the Tündér-hegyi kőfejtő a quarry. It then leads up to János Hill. Hikers appreciate it as a sporty shortcut to the hilltop. Along the way the quarry’s edge provides spectacular views.
István Klenczner helped mark this trail. He noted its scenic beauty. The trail offers a sporty way to reach the hilltop. Plus it gives a chance to see great panoramas from the quarry’s edge.
Speaking of the quarry, did you know that just a century ago, Tündér-hegyi kőfejtő was a working mine? Miners extracted dolomite here. Thankfully in 1978 the area became protected. It slowly transformed into a recreation area.
Today the quarry floor has a fire pit with tables and benches. This makes it a popular spot for outdoor gatherings. However not all gatherings are allowed. Last year police broke up an illegal rave party with fifty people.
The trail from Tündérhegyi úti kilátás continues. It climbs steeply toward the upper station of the Libegő a chairlift. Then a short walk takes you to János Hill’s summit.
If you are up for more exploring, take a detour to Béka-tó. It is Budapest’s largest natural mountain lake. Another interesting sight is the János-hegyi-átjáróbarlang. It is a cave formed in dolomite.
Before you leave Tündérhegyi úti kilátás. Take one last look at the view. Remember the history beneath your feet. This spot was once a bustling quarry. Now it is a place to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.”
