Got natural gas? The Tuaspring CCGT Power Plant does. It is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power plant. The plant can also run on Distillate Fuel Oil. This ensures power even if natural gas is short.
Tuaspring CCGT Power Plant is in South West Singapore. It started operations in March 2016. Siemens was crucial to its construction. They provided engineering procurement and construction services. Siemens also supplied the gas turbine. It is a SGT5-4000F gas turbine with 292MW capacity. A SST5-3000 steam turbine with 119MW capacity was also provided by Siemens.
The plant uses a SGen5-2000H electric generator from Siemens too. Vogt Power International provided the steam boiler. NAES handles the plant’s operation and maintenance.
Originally, Tuaspring was part of a bigger project. It was linked to a desalination plant. The idea was for the power plant to supply energy for desalination. Excess power would then be sold. But the integrated project faced challenges. In February 2017, Tuaspring did not make a profit. The desalination plant was taken over by PUB in May 2019.
YTL Power International acquired Hyflux’s Tuaspring power station. The purchase was completed for $270 million in cash. YTL PowerSeraya now owns the plant. This acquisition has significantly boosted YTL PowerSeraya’s capacity. It added 396 MW to their existing 2,402 MW. This makes them one of Singapore’s largest power generators.
The Tuaspring plant is technologically advanced. It has a proven operational track record. It strengthens YTL PowerSeraya’s portfolio. The Tuaspring CCGT Power Plant continues to power Singapore.
