Tucked between buildings 16 and 18 in the Graf-Stauffenberg-Kaserne, the Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft has a story to tell. It’s more than just a place for soldiers to grab a bite. The Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft is the heart of the Kaserne. It’s a place where camaraderie is cooked up alongside daily meals. This vital hub provides sustenance and a sense of community for everyone stationed here. From soldiers and civilian employees to workers, the Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft welcomes all. The Heimgesellschaft also manages a range of other services and facilities within the Kaserne. This includes the Casino in Building 17, a Betreuungseinrichtung (support facility) in Building 16, and a cafeteria in Building 18. During the summer months, a lively Biergarten springs up between buildings 16 and 18, offering a refreshing retreat. There’s even a Kegelbahn (bowling alley) in Building 16 for some off-duty fun. The Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft also plays a key role in hosting events. Both official military functions and private celebrations find a home within its walls. Even large-scale events, like those held in the Exerzierhaus (drill hall), are catered by the Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft. This requires a significant logistical effort, often involving temporary staff to handle the increased demand. Running such a multifaceted operation isn’t simple. The Heimgesellschaft operates as a registered association, managing its own finances. The Heimfeldwebel (home sergeant) oversees the day-to-day operations. While the Offizierschule (officer school) and Landeskommando Sachsen provide some military personnel to assist, it’s often not enough to cover all the needs. The Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft therefore employs several civilians, both full-time and part-time, to keep things running smoothly. Operating this way, balancing services and costs, makes the Truppenküche / Heimgesellschaft unique. It’s a testament to the dedication of its staff and the importance of community within the Kaserne.
