“It’s an honor to meet you all!” Pastor Don Parish, Jr. booms from the front porch of True Lee Missionary Baptist Church. He’s a young man who’s clearly carrying on a legacy of faith and community. True Lee is the heart of a unique story, born not in Dallas, but in a small town named Prosper, Texas. While standing here, you are looking at a church that has been a refuge, a beacon of hope and a force for good for over a century. It is a symbol of resilience. True Lee, however, wasn’t always here on Robert L Parish Sr Avenue. Established in 1910 in Prosper, Texas, the church moved to Dallas and settled in its current home decades later. This is where True Lee, guided by the leadership of Pastor Parish, Sr, became a hub of community outreach. The church’s mission is to worship, serve, and glorify God. It’s more than a Sunday service though. It’s a haven for community programs like The Summer of Hope, an educational and recreational camp serving children in the neighborhood. True Lee also serves as a support system for students at Paul L. Dunbar Elementary High School, Billy Earl Dade Middle School and Lincoln High School. In a world that may feel overwhelming, True Lee stands as a testament to the power of faith, and the importance of community. This church, with its beautiful steeple pointing to the heavens, is a true symbol of the unwavering spirit of the people who call it home.
