The 15th borough of Munich, Trudering-Riem, is a bustling hub with a rich history and a modern heart. You stand just a stone’s throw from its origins, a place once known as a small village, tracing back its roots to the year 772. Here, in the old village center, you could imagine the life of Truchtaro, the farmer and clan leader, who settled here around the year 500. From humble beginnings, Trudering grew, its story interwoven with the rise of the nearby Riem.

The story of Trudering-Riem is intertwined with aviation. It once housed Munich’s international airport from 1939 onwards, becoming a vital link to the world. Thousands of airplanes touched down here, bringing visitors and connecting the city to global destinations. But the airport served a different purpose during World War II, becoming a military base, a target of bombs and a scene of destruction.

As the 20th century unfolded, Riem faced a momentous change. The airport, once a beacon of progress, was closed in 1992, a decision fueled by the rising demand for a more spacious and modern airport. The airport was relocated to Erdinger Moos, making way for something new, something vibrant. With the airport gone, a new chapter started. In 1998, the old airport grounds were reinvented, transformed into a hub of international trade, a place where business and innovation flourished. It was a monumental shift from the echoes of airplane engines and the roar of the crowds to the hum of commerce. On this very soil, once a stage for take-offs and landings, now the world comes to Munich. New trade shows replaced the departure gates, and the old airport tower, now a silent sentinel, stands as a reminder of the past. Today, the New Munich Trade Center echoes with the pulse of industry and commerce.
