The stories of the departed whisper through the lime trees lining the central drive of Tottenham Park Cemetery. This tranquil site, once a pauper’s cemetery, has a long and fascinating history. Opened in 1912 by the Tottenham Park Cemetery Company, it became a place of remembrance for the local community. The small brick chapel, designed by the renowned architect John Bannen, still stands as a testament to the period’s architectural style. It resembles the chapels of Surbiton and Streatham Park Cemeteries, a testament to Bannen’s unique artistic vision. After years of neglect, the cemetery faced closure in 2018. The owners, however, are currently working hard to restore this vital local landmark. There are plans to complete remedial works and open the site again as soon as possible.
