Built in 1825 the Tottenham Baptist Church stands proudly on the High Road. Its impressive fau00e7ade and iconic Doric columns are instantly recognizable. This Grade II listed building is a testament to the enduring faith of the community. Joseph Fletcher a prominent figure in the area spearheaded its construction. He along with other generous subscribers made this place of worship a reality.

Its doors were open to all regardless of background. The church actively engaged with the local community. It provided vital welfare programs and support for those in need.
One notable member was William Hone a radical publisher and freethinker. Ironically given his earlier works of religious satire Hone later converted to Christianity. He died a devout member carrying a Tottenham Baptist communion ticket. Hone’s final years were spent nearby on Church Road. The church would have been a short walk for him along a pathway known as Chapel Stones. He frequented the church during his final years. He was incredibly frail from a series of strokes.
The Tottenham Baptist Church wasn’t without its internal changes. Its facade underwent restoration in the early 1990s. The restoration returned its simplicity. The building was initially a substantial brick structure with a porch. The porch had Doric columns. Side galleries were added to increase its capacity to 900. In 1907 it became one of the first buildings in Tottenham to be lit by electricity. Today the church continues to serve its community. It remains a significant landmark on the High Road.
