Carlos Romay founded Canal 4. He also founded Radio Monte Carlo in 1924. His wife María Elvira Salvo co-started the channel. Her family built the iconic Palacio Salvo in Montevideo.
At exactly 9 p.m. on that historic day in 1961 Uruguayan viewers tuned in. They watched Casino Monte Carlo. It was a variety show. It became the first program ever aired on Canal 4.
