Ever wonder how a park can embody a community’s vision for recreation and sustainability? That’s Tolentine Park. It stands as a testament to innovative park services.
Tolentine Park is located at 20700 Governors Highway. This 10-acre park wasn’t just built. It was carefully planned. The Olympia Fields Park District wanted a space that delivered the ultimate experience in recreation. They also wanted sustainable initiatives.
As you stroll through Tolentine Park, notice the diverse features designed for all ages. One of the most popular is the Splash Pad. It offers a cool relief on hot summer days. The Splash Pad has 12 nature-themed water features.
Children can enjoy the playground. It has four slides and swings for both children and infants. There is also a chess table. A built-in bean bag toss adds to the fun. They can explore the garden maze.
Take a walk down the biking path. You will pass through four ecosystems. See a farm, prairie grass, a wetland, and a forest. Each ecosystem is home to animals, birds, and insects. Stop by the picnic pavilion to view the green roof. It is one of many sustainable initiatives. This helps the park district go green.
Next, mosey over to the sensory garden. Sit and listen to nature all around you. The community garden is a highlight of Tolentine Park. It is a place to plant various plants. You can perfect your green thumb. You will also grow closer to your neighbors. There are 90 plots available for seasonal rent. Each plot is about 100 square feet.
Tolentine Park is perfect if you want to play sports. You can play basketball using the basketball hoops. Each has a three-point arc. There are plenty of open fields to start a game of soccer. You could also play baseball or ultimate Frisbee.
Dogs are welcome but with restrictions. They must be on a leash. The leash should be no longer than eight feet. Dogs are not allowed in certain areas. These areas are the Splash Pad, basketball court, playground, gazebo, community garden, and sensory garden. Instead, keep dogs along the perimeter of the park on the walking path.
Tolentine Park truly is a place where recreation meets sustainability. It is where community bonds are strengthened. So, take a moment to appreciate how Tolentine Park enhances the quality of life for Olympia Fields residents.
