This legend reflects the conflict between the Mexica and the Tepaneca peoples. Tizapán was a Tepaneca settlement dependent on Coyoacán.
Let’s talk about the heart of Tizapán. The Mercado de Tizapan is one of the most famous markets in the City. It opened in 1958. The Mercado de Tizapan has since become the default center of the Pueblo de Tizapan. The older pueblo is still centered around the Guadalupe Church.

In the 18th century Tizapán became the domain of the Dominicans. Their early hermitage was converted into the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. By then, Tizapán was the center of a growing textile industry. This is especially remembered at Plaza Loreto. The town was also a trade center for fruit orchards. These orchards spread to the north and east in Chimalistac.
The Pueblo Tizapan grew with San Ángel. By the 19th century San Ángel was a community of summer residences. Tizapán became a neighbor with walkable orchards and promenades. Industrial waterways became picturesque backdrops.
