San Martín is best known for its proximity to Teotihuacán. This ancient city houses the awe-inspiring Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Imagine embarking on a guided pyramid tour. You will explore these magnificent structures. You’ll learn about the region’s rich history.

For an exhilarating experience, consider a hot air balloon flight over Teotihuacán. Breathtaking views of the pyramids and the surrounding landscape await. A traditional breakfast follows this adventure. Another must-try activity is the balloon flight with breakfast in a natural cave. This once-in-a-lifetime experience combines adventure with local flavor.

Whether you’re a history buff or an adventure seeker, San Martín has something for everyone. It is a place to immerse yourself in the local culture. The town is one of the original settlements of Azcapotzalco. The Dominicans recognized it in the 16th century.

Interestingly, a giant set of human remains was discovered here in 1967. The ancient man measured about 2.4 meters in height. These remains were found alongside mammoth remains. This discovery occurred near Metro Tezozómoc station. No fewer than 12 sets of mammoth remains were recovered during the construction of Metro Line 6. These remains are estimated to be from 16000 to 20000 years ago.

San Martín was once a lakeside center of chinampa farming. Its Nahuatl name, Xochinahuac, means “next to the flowers.” This name reflects the agricultural production that once thrived here. The church we see today was begun in the late 18th or early 19th century. It has been modified many times. The original dome and bell tower remain. In 1974, the nave was lengthened and the original vault was replaced. Several important paintings date from 1947.

San Martín Obispo church is roughly 12 minutes north of Metro Tezozómoc. It is considered the center of the ancient neighborhood. The Mercado Pasteros is also within easy walking distance. Consider combining your visit with a trip to the Alameda Norte. You can also explore the other ancient barrios of Azcapotzalco.

San Martín stands as a testament to the layers of history. Ancient settlements and unique discoveries mark its past. From pyramids to giant human remains, San Martín invites exploration. Its blend of culture and adventure promises an unforgettable experience.
