How many parks can boast they were born from a love of cake and good company? Tivoli Friheden right here in Aarhus can! It all started in the late 19th century. Locals flocked to the nearby Marselisborg Forests for Sunday picnics. The friendly forest keeper capitalized on this, serving up beer, coffee, and delicious cakes. As the crowds grew, the city council worried he was neglecting his forestry duties. Their solution? Granting a city restaurant permission to take over the refreshments! And so, in 1904, Restaurant Terrassen was born, right here on Tivoli Friheden’s grounds. It’s still here today! A beautiful pavilion designed by architect S. F. Kühnel. Over time, Tivoli Friheden transformed from a simple gathering place into a bustling amusement park. It boasts over 40 attractions. You can experience thrilling rollercoasters, take a whimsical spin on the Ferris wheel, or test your luck at the many game stalls. Tivoli Friheden is not just a place for thrills, though. It’s steeped in history and tradition, echoing with the laughter of generations past. So, as you enjoy the rides and soak in the lively atmosphere, remember you are standing on the grounds of a century-old tradition, fueled by a love for shared moments and maybe just a little bit of cake!
