Perhaps you have noticed that Tiset is more than just a name. Tiset is a place with a rich history. It is also a vibrant community today. We are standing in Tiset. I am eager to share its story with you.

Tiset has roots stretching back centuries. The open structure of Tiset is a legacy from older times. Tiset Church and the town have been separate since the late 1700s.

Around 1800 the settlement included the church and the nearby school. It also had four farms. Nygård at Tisetvej 27 is a Ravnholt farm. It moved to its current location in 1911.

Back then the farms in the core area were closer together. Today’s Vestergård and Bygård formed a twin farm complex. It dissolved when Vestergård moved about 100 meters west.

Over time land was parcelled off. The presbytery was established in 1873. Tiset School was built near the Aarhus-Horsens highway outside the town limits. The farms became smaller. All were still operating in 1974. Except for Vestergård no property was relocated. The compact southeast area developed over many years. A smithy existed at Tisetvej 21 around 1875. In the early 1900s a merchant shop and Nygård appeared. Other buildings mainly served as retirement homes. Later they housed craftsmen.

In 1974 a report described the village environment of Tiset. Tiset was classified as a core village in class 2. Tiset is in a hilly moraine landscape. It sits on the south slope of a small valley. The valley is between Ravnholt and Aarhus Å west of Tiset Church. This location enhances the visual impression.

The report stated the vegetation was not particularly prominent. A fine avenue of trees leads to the farm at Tisetvej 16. The trees around the churchyard should be mentioned. A fire pond had some importance for the village environment.

In 1974 Tiset had six farms and ten residential houses with outbuildings. There was one combined residence and shop. Also there was one church. The village’s function was about 50% agricultural and 50% residential.

Traffic was limited to two secondary roads. Ravnholtvej and Tisetvej did not seem heavily trafficked. The internal road network was simple and straight. The road surface was asphalt. There were no sidewalks.

In 1974 the population was 50. There were 40 buildings on 16 properties and the church. Three buildings plus the church were worthy of preservation.

Tiset occupied a middle ground in terms of physical environment. The church and its surroundings had significant quality. Environmentally positive elements existed in the buildings and vegetation. These elements could not elevate the town above average. The farm complex at Tisetvej 14 marred the village. It had large extensions and a tall radio mast.

Today Tiset is part of Aarhus Municipality. It belongs to Tiset Parish. The parish had 2812 residents in 2022. Most were members of the Church of Denmark. Tiset is a testament to time. It is a blend of history and modern life. Thank you for exploring Tiset with me.
