Five thousand bottles a year. That’s all Tironui Estate produces. A tiny vineyard nestled below Sugarloaf in Taradale. It overlooks New Zealand’s oldest winery Mission Estate. From here you can see across Napier to Cape Kidnappers.

Imagine the Browns. Richard and Jennifer. They bought the land in 1999. It was meant to be a lifestyle block. But something changed. They decided to make wine. Tironui was born. The name means great view. A perfect description.

Their first vintage. A mere 200 bottles in 2005. Now they specialize in Malbec Merlot and Cabernet. They also produce a delicious Rosé. All grapes come from their own small 1.74 hectare vineyard. Hand-picked and aged in French oak barrels. This adds depth and complexity to the wines. The Malbec is particularly noteworthy. It has a smoother finish than many red varietals. It’s a relatively uncommon grape in New Zealand.

Tironui’s wines are unique. They are small-batch. Each bottle feels special. The label is stylized. It’s a beautiful depiction of the view from the vineyard. It captures the essence of this special place.

The Browns didn’t just make wine. They created a legacy. A testament to their passion and vision. Their wines are highly rated. Many receive five-star reviews. The success of Tironui is a story of dedication. It’s also a story of a breathtaking view. A story worth savoring. Just like the wine itself.
