Seven hundred students. That’s how many young minds once filled the halls of Tilst Skole at its peak in the 1974/75 school year. Tilst Skole stands before you, a cornerstone of the Tilst community in western Aarhus. It’s seen generations pass through its doors since that first schoolhouse was built here, long before the grand opening of the new school on May 16, 1911. Tilst Skole celebrated its centennial in 2011, a testament to its enduring presence in this community. The original classroom wing, a link to the school’s past, still stands among the newer additions. Over the years, Tilst Skole has expanded to accommodate its growing student body. New classroom wings, administrative offices, specialized subject rooms, and even a swimming pool and sports hall, opened in 1975, have been added. The school isn’t just a place of learning. It’s the heart of Tilst, a hub for the entire community. It shares its grounds with a library, a local archive, a dental clinic, and outdoor football fields. Tilst Skole even shares its neighborhood with Aarhus Gymnasium Tilst, creating a vibrant educational landscape. In 2021, Tilst Skole embarked on a major renovation project. With a budget of 62 million kroner, the aim is to modernize the facilities and solidify its role as a community gathering place. Tilst Skole today welcomes students from kindergarten to ninth grade, numbering 686 in the 19/20 school year. Led by Lone Jørgensen and vice principal Jonny Juul Lindgreen, Tilst Skole continues its mission to provide a quality education while fostering a sense of community. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a modern educational institution, Tilst Skole has consistently served the community of Tilst. As you stand here, imagine the echoes of generations of students who walked these halls before you, shaping the history and spirit of this vibrant community.
