In 1880, Tiffin School first opened its doors. It was a different time. The boys were downstairs, and the girls were upstairs. The two groups were kept strictly separate at the original Fairfield location. Tiffin School was originally known as “The Tiffins Schools”. The name Tiffin Boys’ School and Tiffin Girls’ School became more common after the girls moved to a separate location. The Fairfield open space was used for games and recreation. Jump forward to 1929. Tiffin Boys’ School relocated to its current site on Queen Elizabeth Road. This is where we stand today. Under the Education Act of 1944, it officially became a grammar school. Tiffin School has continued to evolve. In 2011, it transitioned to academy status. Today, Tiffin School educates over 1,400 pupils. While it remains a boys’ school for years 7 to 11, the sixth form has been co-educational since 2019. Now, let’s talk about a few things Tiffin School is known for. The school boasts impressive academic achievements. In 2022, they celebrated their best GCSE and A-level results in a decade. Beyond academics, Tiffin School has a renowned choir. The Tiffin Boys’ Choir has performed at prestigious venues like the Royal Opera House and the Royal Festival Hall. They even appeared on the soundtrack of the film “A Christmas Carol” starring Kate Winslet. Tiffin School also excels in sports. Their dedicated sports ground, Grist’s, hosts rugby, athletics, football, and cricket matches. So, as you stand before Tiffin School, remember its journey.
