Leipzig is a city of water. Did you know it has more bridges than Venice? But it is also a city of art. Today, we are at one of Leipzig’s many Springbrunnen. This is the Tierbrunnen.

Springbrunnen means fountain in German. Leipzig has 33 Springbrunnen and 4 fountains. Fifteen Springbrunnen are in the city center. You can find many more in the outer districts.

These fountains add to Leipzig’s beauty. They also make the city a nicer place to be. The Tierbrunnen reflects Leipzig’s rich art history. People often take photos here. It is a popular meeting spot.

Think of Leipzig without its Springbrunnen. It is almost impossible. The Mendebrunnen is another example. It is hard to imagine Leipzig without it.

The city takes pride in its fountains. You can even donate to help keep them running. This helps preserve these beautiful landmarks.

But remember. These fountains are not for swimming. The city’s parks and water department says so. The water is not clean enough. It is not safe. You could slip and fall.

The water quality is not the same as at a swimming lake. Fountains use a pump system. This can trap dirt and dust. The water is only changed sometimes. Only large particles are filtered out. People and animals can add more dirt. This makes the water even worse.

There are other dangers too. Algae can grow on the fountain floor. This makes it slippery. Sharp objects can be hidden in the water. You might not see them.

Also, Springbrunnen are often old and protected. They can be damaged easily. Climbing on them is dangerous. Repairs can be expensive.

It is against the law to enter the Springbrunnen. The police have rules about it. So, please do not step into the Tierbrunnen.

Instead, enjoy Leipzig’s swimming pools and lakes. They are a better way to cool off. Help us keep Leipzig’s fountains beautiful. Admire the Tierbrunnen from afar. It is part of what makes Leipzig special.
