Thornton High School, a grand old institution, has witnessed incredible athletic achievements within its walls. Thornton High School, often simply called “Thornton,” has quite a history. Founded in 1899, this public high school located in Harvey, Illinois, is one of the three schools under the Thornton Township High Schools District 205. Thornton High School has a distinct identity, separate from its counterparts Thornwood High School and Thornridge High School also in the district. What sets Thornton High School apart is its legacy of producing remarkable talents in both the arts and sports. It’s a school where dreams take flight, from the stage to the athletic field. Notably, the school boasts an impressive array of alumni who’ve achieved significant success. Among them is Betty Robinson, a graduate of Thornton in 1929. Betty holds the incredible distinction of being a two-time Olympic gold medalist. She even clinched the first-ever gold medal in the women’s 100-meter dash at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Interestingly, her Olympic gold medal has found a cherished home right here at Thornton High School, a testament to the school’s remarkable heritage.
