In 1952 negotiations began. The old church planned to transfer or sell the building. The goal was to create a new church within the same Congregational Christian fellowship. The sale was offered at a deeply discounted price to facilitate this transition.
A planning committee was formed. The committee included representatives from multiple churches. They also included members of the Chicago City Missionary Society and the Chicago Theological Seminary. The committee surveyed the community. They laid the groundwork for a new congregation.
