He promptly wrote to his wife, requesting she bring a football and pump. In September 1894, beside the Bangu Textile Factory, the first recorded football match in Brazil took place. It was a six-a-side match between British workers, predating Charles Miller’s famous São Paulo game. Bangu Atlético Clube, the local team, proudly traces its origins back to Donohoe and his colleagues.
