The school’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In 1939 the Nazis closed it. They even seized its belongings. After the war the Theresianum reopened in 1950 in a damaged building. It was a private higher education institution at the time.
The Theresianum eventually opened its doors to students not living in the boarding school in 1962. The first graduating class earned their Abitur diplomas in 1967. A new building was constructed between 1977 and 1981. This is the building you see today. The Theresianum prides itself on its modern facilities and equipment. In 2019 the Theresianum started a collaboration with the Kantakuzina Katarina Brankovic Serbian Orthodox Secondary School in Zagreb Croatia. This partnership was through the Erasmus program.
