A metaphorical description: The Thèâtre du Rond-Point is a chameleon. It has transformed over the decades to remain a vital part of Parisian culture.

The Thèâtre du Rond-Point stands before us. It is located on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. This is in the 8th arrondissement. It is more than just a theater. It is a landmark with a rich history.

Originally, the site housed a panorama in 1839. Architect Jacques Ignace Hittorff designed this rotunda. People marveled at 360-degree paintings of historical battles. They saw faraway destinations.

By 1893, panoramas had waned in popularity. The building transformed into the Palais de Glace. This Ice Palace became a Belle Époque hotspot. Parisians enjoyed skating on its 850 square meter rink. They enjoyed the cafe and orchestra. The Palais de Glace thrived until the 1970s.

In 1981, the building was converted into the Thèâtre du Rond-Point. The Renaud-Barrault Company became its resident troupe. They had to leave their former space at the Gare d’Orsay. The Thèâtre du Rond-Point embraced contemporary works and traditional Eastern performances.

The Ministry of Culture entrusted the theater to an association in 1991. Robert Abirached presided over it. The Académie Expérimentale des Théâtres found a home here. The Maison des Cultures du Monde and Festival d’Automne also used the space.

Marcel Maréchal took over in 1995. He aimed to present the theater of our time.

Jean-Michel Ribes became the director in 2001. He committed to showcasing living authors. Ribes directed the Thèâtre du Rond-Point for over two decades.

Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel now direct the theater since 2023. They continue its tradition of innovation. They had previously directed the Monfort theater.

The Thèâtre du Rond-Point has a main hall with 746 seats. It is a place for theater and concerts. The Thèâtre du Rond-Point is known for its accessibility and restaurant.

Many famous artists have graced its stage. Audiences have enjoyed works by Christophe Alévêque and others.

The Thèâtre du Rond-Point stands as a testament to Parisian cultural evolution. It is a place where history and innovation meet. It will continue to inspire for years to come.
