Founded in 1907, The Sacred Heart Language College holds a special place in Harrow’s educational landscape. The Sacred Heart Language College began its journey thanks to the Sisters of St Chretienne. They sought refuge from religious persecution in France.

However, in 1920, the Sisters of Notre Dame des Missions took over after the original order went back to France. Initially, The Sacred Heart Language College was a boarding school exclusively for girls. Though a few boys did find their way into the kindergarten.

World War I brought financial challenges to many Catholic schools. The Sacred Heart Language College faced these struggles head-on. Pupils and staff united. They raised funds to keep their beloved school open.

In 1957, The Sacred Heart Language College achieved the status of a voluntary aided grammar school. A significant change occurred in 1991. The first lay headteacher was appointed. This followed the long and dedicated service of Sister Anne Collette.

The 1990s presented a period of difficulty. Pupil numbers and GCSE scores declined. An unfavorable Ofsted inspection report in 1994 added to the challenges. But fortunes turned with Mary Waplington’s appointment as headteacher in 1997.

In 2003, The Sacred Heart Language College earned Language College specialist status. This achievement led to its present name. An Ofsted report in 2005 recognized the school as very good.

Miss Geraldine Higgins became headteacher in 2007. This ushered in a new era of success. Outstanding Ofsted judgements followed in 2008 and 2014. A 2013 Diocesan report praised the school’s teaching and spirituality. The Sacred Heart Language College was deemed outstanding in both areas.

The Sacred Heart Language College embraced academy status in May 2019. It is now supported by the Blessed Holy Family Catholic Academy Trust.

Today, The Sacred Heart Language College continues to uphold a tradition of academic excellence. Gospel values guide the school’s daily life. It is a Catholic learning community for girls aged 11 to 16. The school encourages everyone to strive for excellence.

The Sacred Heart Language College works closely with primary partners. This ensures a smooth transition to secondary school. The school extends its commitment to high-quality learning through its partnership with St Dominic’s Sixth Form College. The Sacred Heart Language College welcomes all to discover its distinctive character.
