The Pointer School

The Pointer School, a grand building with a majestic facade, stands on Stratheden Road in Blackheath. It’s a place of learning where children have been nurtured and educated for over 70 years. The school was founded by two sisters, Muriel and Dela Pointer. In the 1920s, they started “The Pointer Dance School”, which was a huge success in Blackheath, winning national awards and competitions. But the sisters had a grander vision and wanted to educate young minds in more ways than just dance. In 1950, they purchased a beautiful building on Stratheden Road and opened The Pointer School. Muriel and Dela were passionate about providing a loving and fun environment where children could learn and flourish. This ethos, instilled by the founders, continues to guide the school today. The Pointer School has grown into a large and successful school, with a strong reputation for its traditional but exciting approach to education. It’s a place where children can explore their passions. Even though it’s grown, The Pointer School has not forgotten its roots – its quirky character and a strong emphasis on pastoral care are evident in every aspect of the school. The Pointer School is more than just a place of learning; it’s a community where children can grow, learn, and become well-rounded individuals with a deep understanding of the world around them.
