The Parks Mall at Arlington opened its doors on February 24, 1988. Homart Development Company and Herring Marathon developed it. The original anchor stores were Dillard’s, Mervyns, and Sears.
In 1989, Foley’s joined the Parks Mall at Arlington family. Foley’s is now Macy’s. Five years later, JCPenney became the fifth anchor store.
The Parks Mall at Arlington expanded again in 2002. A new wing was added featuring Galyan’s and The Great Indoors. Galyan’s is now Dick’s Sporting Goods. The Great Indoors closed in 2003.
Mervyns closed in 2006. Several new tenants replaced it including Barnes & Noble. The Cheesecake Factory and Forever 21 also moved in. In 2016, Round1 Amusement took over the former Steve and Barry’s space.
Sears closed in 2020. It reopened in 2021 as Sears Hometown Inc. Sears Hometown closed sometime after that. In 2023, it was announced that a Dick’s House of Sports would replace the former Sears. The store is slated to open by June 30, 2026.
Brookfield Properties is currently undertaking a significant renovation. The $45 million project will transform the former Dick’s Sporting Goods space. It will become a retail and dining hub. Dick’s will relocate to a new, larger space.
The Parks Mall at Arlington boasts a variety of anchor stores. These include Dillard’s, JCPenney, and Macy’s. You’ll also find Dick’s Sporting Goods. Nordstrom Rack is another major store.
The Dallas Morning News once called The Parks Mall at Arlington an “overcrowded entertainment destination”. Today The Parks Mall at Arlington remains a premier shopping destination. It offers something for everyone with around 180 stores and services. The Parks Mall at Arlington has a total retail floor area of 1,510,000 square feet.
