Matt Tibbey and Ali Southey bought The Old Crown three years ago. They knew the area was changing. They were ready to get creative to adapt. They had to rethink the future because life had suddenly changed so much. They wanted to rethink their future and the future of urban community pubs.

The Old Crown occupies a fairly tight corner plot. It has plenty of Victorian quirks and atmosphere. It has a late license. It has long been the after-hours pitstop of choice for the West End’s post-work crowds.

During the lockdown, the duo converted the upstairs dining room into a TV studio. They were mixing camera angles themselves to avoid needing a crew. They offered bespoke shows to office teams that might usually congregate for a pint downstairs.
