“The Little House” is a strange one. It’s a tiny, narrow house that stands on Thames Street. It’s so small that it doesn’t have room for much. The locals call it London’s smallest house. It’s not a dwelling. It was never meant for anyone to live in. It was built in the 1800s as a watchman’s house. It was used to look out for possible fires. The watchman would sit in the house all night. He would patrol the streets looking for any sign of fire. The little house is only a few bricks wider than its front door. It is tucked between two grand mansion blocks. The walls of the house are built of a beautiful red brick. The house is also part of three linked buildings. The convent’s community still uses it today. The Little House has a strange history. It was used by the watchman, before being incorporated into the convent. The convent’s nuns continue to use it to this day.
