Dive into East London’s landscape where art and nature intertwine at The Line. This unique public art trail connects Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2. It follows waterways and the Greenwich Meridian line. The Line offers a free outdoor exhibition for all.

The Line was founded in 2015. Megan Piper and the late Clive Dutton OBE co-founded it. Dutton dedicated his life to improving urban living. The project aimed to make art accessible to everyone. Sculptures once hidden from the public are now on display.

Collaboration with local groups was vital. It remains key to The Line’s success. A Spacehive crowdfunding campaign launched it. It raised over £140000 in less than eight weeks in 2014. The Line opened to the public within 18 months.

The Line unveiled monumental sculptures in May 2015. These sculptures lined East London’s waterways. Initial loans included works by Eduardo Paolozzi and Thomas J Price. A panel selected them through open submission. Mark Wallinger and Simon Myers were on the panel. The Line also features existing works. These include Antony Gormley’s Quantum Cloud and Anish Kapoor’s ArcelorMittal Orbit.

The Line celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2020. The route extended into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The digital guide launched with Bloomberg Connects. In 2022, The Line expanded its team and board. Three new site-specific commissions were launched.

You can experience The Line in person. The website and Bloomberg Connects app also offer access. Social media keeps you updated. The Line connects Newham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich. It follows the Greenwich Meridian.

The Line’s program evolves. It includes art installations and events. The landscape inspires exploration of art, nature, and heritage. An interactive map helps you discover the exhibition program. It also shows the route’s wildlife and history.

It takes about four hours to walk the entire route. You can also visit different sections on different days. The Line is always changing. Different seasons and tides make each visit unique. Blue and red vinyl markers guide you.

The Line is free for everyone. The London Cable Car connects North Greenwich and the Royal Docks for a fee. The DLR connects the Royal Docks and Cody Dock.

Many transport options serve The Line. These include the Underground, Overground, bus, and boat. Cyclists and pedestrians share narrow towpaths.

The Greenwich Meridian is the line separating east from west. It marks zero degrees longitude. It is the starting point for every time zone.

The Line welcomes everyone. Locals, tourists, families, and art lovers can enjoy it. Spending time in nature and experiencing art improves wellbeing. The Line is a great place to escape.

The Line presents monumental sculptures. Leading international artists created them. Many works were previously hidden from view. The Line collaborates with cultural partners.
