Opened in 2007, The Lakes South Morang College isn’t just a school. It’s a vibrant hub of learning and creativity, nestled in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. The Lakes, as it’s affectionately known, has a rich history, evolving from The Lakes South Morang P-9 School into the impressive P-12 college it is today. The college boasts two distinct campuses. The primary campus, a place where iPads are as common as pencils, features flexible learning spaces that encourage collaboration and exploration. Imagine young minds buzzing with ideas as they navigate these innovative classrooms. The secondary campus pulsates with a different energy. Here, laptops replace iPads, and students delve into specialized subjects. Think state-of-the-art science labs, a design studio where creativity takes flight, and a dance studio where movements speak volumes. The Lakes South Morang College is not just about academics. It’s a place where the performing arts flourish. Remember the captivating performance of “The Lake: a feathered tale of deception and dance”? Held at Parade College in Bundoora, this production, inspired by Swan Lake, showcased the students’ talent and passion. The original musical score, composed by a staff member, filled the air with contemporary melodies and rhythms. From the haunting “Lake Overture” to the poignant “Life Begins,” the music resonated with the audience. The Lakes even nurtured a student band, Unskooled. Formed in 2008, this middle-years band rocked the stage at events like the NMR School of Rock and the City of Whittlesea Community Festival. Their energy was infectious. Sadly, the band disbanded in 2010, but their music echoes in the halls of The Lakes. Led by Principal Bill Panas, The Lakes South Morang College continues to inspire its students.
