Hidden within the vibrant tapestry of Dallas, Texas, lies The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas. A church not of brick and mortar alone, but of stories whispered through time. Do you hear the echoes of its beginnings? The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas wasn’t always here, on this hallowed ground. Its journey began as a humble Bible study in 1979, nestled in the homes of families like Hadley and Mary Stephens. They sought connection, community, and a deeper understanding of their faith. This small gathering blossomed, evolving from a simple study into a Sunday worship service at the Jolly Land Day Care Center on Canton Highway. Guided by Rev. Billy Davies, an assistant pastor at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, this fledgling group began to take root. The congregation, now known as North Cobb Community Church, continued to flourish. In 1981, they found their first dedicated home, a vacant church building on Steinhauer Road. Just two years later, they achieved self-sufficiency and were officially recognized by the North Georgia Presbytery. Growth, however, necessitated change. Under the leadership of Pastor Jim Powell, called in 1985, the church embarked on a journey of transformation. They envisioned a larger space, a place where their community could truly thrive. In 1986, the church was renamed The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas, a name that reflected their aspirations for the future. Two modular buildings were added in 1987, a temporary solution to their growing needs. Then, in 1988, the dream became reality. The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas purchased the 8.4-acre property at the corner of Sandy Plains and Wigley Roads. Their final service at the Steinhauer Road facility was held on July 15, 1990, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter. While their new sanctuary was being built, they held services at Mabry Middle School. Finally, on January 19, 1992, the new facility was dedicated, a testament to their faith and perseverance. The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas continued to evolve, weathering changes in leadership and expanding its ministries to meet the needs of its growing congregation. They added parking and an educational annex in 2001, all while remaining debt-free. Through it all, the spirit of The Hope Presbyterian Church of Dallas has remained constant. It stands as a beacon of faith and community, a living testament to the power of shared belief and the enduring strength of hope.
