Càirdeas! Welcome friends. Look around you. This isn’t just a building. This is the Glasgow Gaelic School Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu a beacon of language and culture.

The Glasgow Gaelic School opened its doors in 2006. Before that a smaller primary school Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu existed since 1999 in Ashley Street. It quickly outgrew its space. The school relocated to larger premises on Berkeley Street. It now provides Gaelic medium education for children aged 3 to 18. This makes it Scotland’s first 3-18 Gaelic-medium school. This was a significant step for Gaelic language preservation in Glasgow.

Think about it. Before 2006 Gaelic was fading in this city. Now children learn everything through the medium of Gaelic. They learn math science history and literature all in Gaelic. English is taught as a second language.

The school’s motto is Cànan Cultar Cothrom. This translates to Language Culture Opportunity. It perfectly captures the school’s mission. To teach the language to preserve the culture and create opportunities for its students. It’s a testament to the determination of the people who fought to keep Gaelic alive. It is a wonderful example of language revitalization.

Now imagine walking through these halls. Imagine the sound of children speaking Gaelic. Imagine the stories told the songs sung the culture celebrated. This is a place where the past thrives. It is a space where the future is shaped by the strength of the Gaelic language.

The Glasgow Gaelic School isn’t just a school. It is a symbol of resilience. It’s proof that a language’s spirit can’t be easily extinguished. It’s a place where history meets the future in perfect harmony. This is a place to cherish. Let’s carry this powerful story with us as we continue our journey.
