Before the merger, Anniesland College forged connections with the local community. It ran outreach programs in community centers and schools, creating partnerships with local industries, including the shipbuilding sector. The college also boasts a famous former student. Football legend Kenny Dalglish briefly studied here as an apprentice joiner in the late 1960s. Another notable figure with Anniesland College connections is Alex Kapranos. Before finding fame as the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, he lectured in IT at the college. He taught part-time for a couple of years, leaving in 2003 when the band signed their record deal.
