Did you know Glasgow Clyde College – Anniesland Campus isn’t even that old? Right here in Glasgow’s west end, where the campus stands today, was once the site of Anniesland College. Established in 1964, Anniesland College served the community for nearly fifty years. That all changed in 2013. Anniesland College merged with Cardonald and Langside Colleges to create the larger Glasgow Clyde College. The campus retained its name, becoming Glasgow Clyde College – Anniesland Campus. This modern campus, located on Hatfield Drive, is a far cry from the original college. Its sleek, three-story classroom block and two-story workshops buzz with activity. A multimedia library and nursery round out the facilities. Glasgow Clyde College – Anniesland Campus isn’t just about new buildings, though. It carries a legacy. Before the merger, Anniesland College forged connections with the local community. It ran outreach programs in community centers and schools, creating partnerships with local industries, including the shipbuilding sector. The college also boasts a famous former student. Football legend Kenny Dalglish briefly studied here as an apprentice joiner in the late 1960s. Another notable figure with Anniesland College connections is Alex Kapranos. Before finding fame as the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, he lectured in IT at the college. He taught part-time for a couple of years, leaving in 2003 when the band signed their record deal.
