Established in 2014 The Gateway Primary Academy opened its doors. It’s a vibrant hub of learning. The Academy serves children aged four to eleven. It’s a mixed gender school. The school’s capacity is 210 pupils. Currently around 210 children attend. About thirteen percent of students are eligible for free school meals. The Gateway Primary Academy is a converter academy. It’s part of a single academy trust. The headteacher is Mr Jamiel Cassem. The Academy places a strong emphasis on history. It aims to provide pupils with a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world.
The history curriculum is tailored to the local area. It aims to inspire pupils and connect learning to their own lives. The curriculum is chronologically sequenced. This helps children develop a strong sense of time. In the early years children learn about their immediate history families and themselves. They explore pictures photographs and objects. They learn about different past experiences. This helps them understand that everyone’s experience is unique.

The Gateway Primary Academy also introduces famous historical figures. Pupils learn about their impact on the world today. The school’s vocabulary is carefully chosen. This ensures that it is progressive and revisable. In Key Stage 1 vocabulary focuses on the passage of time. Key topic vocabulary is introduced later. In Key Stage 2 more advanced vocabulary is used.
