How many secrets can a bottle of gin hold? The Duke Munich Dry Gin, born in the heart of Munich, holds more than a few. Right here in Schwabing, two friends, Daniel Schönecker and Maximilian Schauerte, dreamed up a gin that would capture the spirit of Bavaria. In 2008, they established The Duke Distillery, a testament to their vision. They named their creation after the city’s founder, “Heinrich the Lion,” whose legacy echoes in every sip. The Duke isn’t just another gin. It’s bio-certified, a badge of honor signifying the purely natural, pollutant-free botanicals used in its creation. Thirteen organic botanicals, a blend of traditional and Bavarian, come together in a dance of flavor. Juniper, lemon peel, coriander, angelica root, lavender, ginger, orange blossom, and cubeb pepper create the foundation. Then comes the twist: hop blossoms and malt, a nod to Bavarian brewing tradition, give The Duke its distinctive character. The process is as meticulous as the ingredients. The botanicals are macerated in alcohol, then distilled in a traditional copper boiler at low temperatures, preserving their delicate aromas. A double filtration follows, ensuring purity and clarity. Finally, each bottle is hand-bottled and labeled, adorned with a blue and white Bavarian coat of arms. The Duke Munich Dry Gin isn’t just meant to be drunk; it’s meant to be savored. Enjoy it neat, or mix it with a Fentimans Tonic for a classic Gin and Tonic that elevates the experience. Whether you’re a gin connoisseur or just starting your journey, The Duke offers a taste of Munich’s history and innovation. It’s a reminder that even in a bustling city, the best things are often crafted with passion, precision, and a touch of local spirit.
