“City by the Lake” – that’s what they call The Colony. It’s a city with a rich history, born out of the land once owned by the Peters Colony. The Colony wasn’t always a thriving suburban city, though. It wasn’t even around before 1973. Back then, it was just 3,000 acres of land, waiting to be developed. You might be surprised to hear that the names of many streets in The Colony are inspired by the early settlers and the construction workers who built this city from scratch. The name “The Colony” itself is a nod to the adventurous spirit of the Peters colonists who had a vision of building something new in a new land. Fox and Jacobs, who purchased these 3,000 acres, aimed to recreate that spirit, building a “dream city” with single-family homes arranged as a “colony”. But it wasn’t just about preserving the past; The Colony was built from the ground up, merging Frisco’s extraterritorial jurisdiction with modern infrastructure and amenities. You can still see remnants of that early history in places like Bridges Cemetery, established in 1857 on land owned by the Bridges family. The Colony is a unique blend of old and new, a place where history meets modern development, a place called “City by the Lake”.
