In 1969, the site where St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School stood became available. It was purchased for £14,000. The building of The Catholic Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord opened in March 1974. The architects were Broadbent Hastings Reid & Todd. The partner in charge was D. A. Reid. The building cost £51900.
The Catholic Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord was consecrated on 24 September 1982. Steven Sykes designed the sculpture of the Risen Christ. It hangs above the entrance. Sister Concordia designed the fibreglass statue of the Madonna and Child dated 1983. Michael Clark created the Stations of the Cross in 1985.
In 1987, the mission became a formal parish. Around 1990, the church was extended. This provided a larger parish room and a priest’s flat.
The church is constructed using reinforced concrete and pale yellow brick. The west front faces the corner of Kirkdale and Sydenham Park. The sculpture of the Risen Christ by Steven Sykes decorates the entrance.
Inside The Catholic Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, the main space is top-lit. Glazed portions of the roof let in light. The congregational space focuses on the sanctuary.
The timber font is near the entrance. A small chapel is to the southwest. A mosaic frieze reads Ubi caritas et amor Deus ibi est. Michael Clark’s Stations of the Cross adorn the walls. Sister Concordia’s sculpture of the Madonna and Child is in the southeast corner.
The sanctuary furniture is all of matching timber. Elspeth M.G. Reid created the timber crucifix above the altar.

Mass times vary. Saturday Vigil Mass is at 6:00 pm. Sunday Masses are at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. A Coptic Mass in Arabic is at 1:30 pm. Weekday Masses are at 9:30 am.
