Once upon a time, a windmill stood near The Brent Primary School. This windmill was first mentioned in 1799. It operated until 1886. The windmill was demolished around 1901.

Now let’s step into The Brent Primary School itself. Stone School officially opened on December 10th 1894. This was a result of the 1870 Education Act. The Act of 1880 made school attendance compulsory. Mr. Walford from Northfleet designed the Victorian building. Mr. Seager from Sittingbourne built it. You can still see it today.

The first log book entry tells us about the opening day. Mr. R W Allen was the Headmaster. 145 children were present. A year later, inspectors visited. They were pleased and reported the school to be in good order.

In 1933, the boys built a garden. It had a pond and flowerbeds. Vegetable beds linked with paths. There was also a rockery. Trellis work supported climbing plants. A seat offered rest to admire their work. The birdbath was special. It used a 4″ iron pipe through the center. An enamel bowl topped it. The boys fetched cement from the factory after school.
