In 1915, a beacon of faith ignited in Savannah. Thankful Baptist Church opened its doors on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. This church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a testament to the resilience and spirit of a community. Thankful Baptist Church, a medium-sized congregation, quickly became a cornerstone of Savannah’s cultural landscape. The church’s rich history echoes through its very foundation. It has witnessed countless Sundays filled with prayer, song, and community fellowship.

Thankful Baptist Church isn’t just steeped in history. It’s a vibrant, living entity. Led by Reverend Dr. Bobby W. Jones, the church embraces a blend of tradition and contemporary worship styles. Sunday school starts at 9:00 am, followed by the main worship service at 10:00 am. The second Sunday of each month holds a special significance. It’s the day for communion, a time for reflection and spiritual renewal. The church welcomes everyone, regardless of attire. You’ll see a mix of formal and informal dress, reflecting the diversity of its congregation. Services include printed bulletins, congregational readings, and an altar call, offering a welcoming atmosphere for both regular members and visitors.

Thankful Baptist Church is more than just Sunday services. It’s a hub of activity, offering a range of ministries and programs for all ages. From children’s ministry to young adult groups, men’s and women’s ministries, and senior adult programs, there’s something for everyone. The church’s mission is simple yet profound: to advance the kingdom of God through preaching, teaching, and living the Gospel. It strives to be a L.I.V.E. church – Loving, Inspirational, Victorious, and Equipping – connecting the church to the community and the community to Christ.

But Thankful Baptist Church also serves the practical needs of its community. On the fourth Saturday of each month, except November and December, the church transforms into a food pantry. From 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, they offer free groceries to those in need. This act of service underscores their commitment to not just spiritual nourishment, but also to the physical well-being of their neighbors. Thankful Baptist Church embodies the spirit of giving and community support, making it a true pillar of Savannah. Their dedication to serving others is a testament to their faith and a reflection of the vibrant spirit that makes Thankful Baptist Church such a special place.
