Reunion Arena in Dallas, a once-grand space for entertainment, was nearing its end. The city needed a new hub for concerts and shows. The Texas Trust CU Theatre was born as an alternative for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The grand vision was for a place that would attract a diverse crowd for the upcoming concerts, Broadway musicals, and family shows. Built near Lone Star Park, it became Grand Prairie’s shining gem. However, the construction was delayed by fourteen months due to budget increases. Despite the hiccups, the Texas Trust CU Theatre finally opened its doors in 2002 as the NextStage Performance Theater. It attracted thousands of guests with a seating capacity of 6,350. Over the years, it has seen several name changes, like Nokia Live and Verizon Theatre, all thanks to corporate sponsorships. The theatre had a long history of hosting famous artists and shows, including memorable acts like Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Just in 2021, Texas Trust CU Theatre was adopted as its official name. Today it stands as a vibrant symbol of entertainment in Grand Prairie.
