“Cooking pot bay” That’s what Telok Blangah means in Malay. It perfectly describes this beautiful bay. Its shape resembles a traditional clay cooking pot.

Telok Blangah has a rich history stretching back to the 13th century. It’s one of Singapore’s oldest areas. Legend says Sang Nila Utama battled a fierce storm here before founding Singapura. He even threw his crown overboard in the tempest. Can you imagine?

The area wasn’t always called Telok Blangah. It was once known as Telok Blanga Teluk Belanga. Even Teluk Blangah. The name changed over time. Mount Faber a prominent landmark here wasn’t always called that either. It was originally Telok Blangah Hill. It was renamed in 1845 after Captain Charles Edward Faber. He built the first road to its summit a road newspapers at the time called “stupidly narrow”.

Telok Blangah holds more than just legends. It boasts stunning natural beauty. Labrador Park a nature reserve is nearby. Mount Faber offers breathtaking panoramic views. You can even take the cable car up to Sentosa Island from here.

Many historical sites dot Telok Blangah. The Johor Royal Mausoleum is here. This is the resting place of members of the Johor royal family. Even the remains of Temenggong Abdul Rahman and his family.
