Wonder what drives thousands to seek education here? That’s the spirit of Universidad Tecmilenio. It is a Mexican private university. Tecmilenio has multiple campuses. You might also hear it called Tec Milenio University.

Tecmilenio’s story began on September 2 2002. It started in Monterrey. Lorenzo Zambrano and Rafael Rangel Sostmann wanted to offer quality education. This education was for those who couldn’t afford the Tecnologico de Monterrey. These students also needed to work.

Initially, Tecmilenio had campuses in Monterrey and Mexico City. Soon, Educational Technology Parks emerged. These parks helped students connect with companies. IBM and Infosys were among them.

Over time, Tecmilenio expanded across Mexico. It acquired other institutions and campuses. It even absorbed some campuses from Tecnologico de Monterrey.

In 2013, Tecmilenio adopted a new educational model. It became administratively linked to the President of Tecnologico de Monterrey. Yet, it kept its academic autonomy.

By late 2024, Universidad Tecmilenio had 31 campuses. These were in 27 Mexican cities. Five campuses operated as Educational Technology Parks. They partnered with various companies.

Tecmilenio is known for its focus on practical learning. Its bachelor’s programs include internships. Students can complete up to 40% of their credits. They do this through professional certifications.

The university also emphasizes positive psychology. Tecmilenio even appointed Tal Ben-Shahar. He is a psychologist from Harvard. He served as president of the Institute of Happiness Sciences advisory board.

Tecmilenio has academic exchange agreements. These agreements are with institutions in over 60 countries. These include the University of Valencia in Spain. It also includes the University of Nottingham in the UK.

In 2024, Tecmilenio received 4 out of 5 stars. This is according to the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings. It earned 5 stars for teaching, employability and social impact.

Interestingly, Tecmilenio was the only Mexican university. It received an honorable mention in the 2020 Green Gown Awards.

Today, Tecmilenio continues to evolve. It focuses on co-creating educational experiences with companies. It designs flexible educational paths. The university incorporates digital programs and provides personalized support. Tecmilenio prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the future. It has over 60,000 students.

Tecmilenio graduates find success. About 89% find employment after graduation. Around 10% start their own businesses.
