Tashkent Park was established in 1974, a year after the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association was formed. This small park, located on Boylston Street between Republican and Mercer Streets, is a testament to a unique bond forged during the Cold War. Tashkent Park holds a piece of art that embodies this spirit of unity. The Semurg sculpture, also known as the “Bird of Happiness,” stands proudly in the park. This gift from Tashkent to Seattle in 1988, created by Uzbek artist Jacob Shapiro, is a visual reminder of the enduring connection between the two cities.
